Modbury is an ideal touring centre, situated ‘Between the Moors and the Sea’. This short statement beautifully summarizes the juxtaposition of Modbury and hints at the vast variety of outdoor activities and sporting opportunities that lie within this area of the South Hams.
There are many resources to help you plan your cycling trip. The OS map for South Devon OL20, (available is large scale and very detailed. Modbury has recently been added to the National Cycle Network and Sustrans have signed a new Route 28 close to the town, which links Plymouth and Salcombe.
Another well-signed Sustrans Dartmoor Way Route (www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/map) follows quiet Devon lanes and minor roads and cycle tracks. As well as the main circular route, there is a high moor link which offers long and short trails.
The Puffing Billy mountain bike trail from Ivybridge to Redlake is 16 miles long and leads to the heart of Dartmoor and back. Bikes can be hired, Including electric bikes, from Puffing Billy Cycles at Wrangaton.
